TIL Zambia blocked a news site during their election and nobody outside cared
Read a thread from a journalist who ran a small online paper in Lusaka. He said the govt cut his site for 11 days in August 2021, right before the vote, and he only found out by trying to access it on his own phone. The funny thing is, people in the West kept talking about 'election integrity' while this went totally under the radar. Is it just because Zambia isn't a big economic player, or do we only care when a big country like Turkey or India does it? Anyone else seen a small-country block that got zero coverage, and what did you do to fact-check it?
