Pro tip: that old fish tape trick from 15 yrs ago still beats the new flex rods

Pulled a 60 ft run through a attic in Phoenix last week, went back to the steel fish tape my old lead guy taught me with, and it got through a 3 inch gap where the fancy rod kept snagging, so for anyone fighting tight drops, what's your go-to when the new gear fails?

Steel fish tape still wins the snag fight" is the whole truth. That old metal has a way of sliding through gaps that flex rods just can't handle, no joke. My go-to is the same as yours, the 14 gauge steel tape with a good coating. It's got the stiffness to push through 3 inch openings without bending back on itself, like my fancy rods do every single time. Plus it swings around corners in attics way better, you know, when you're sweating bullets and just want the pull done. New gear is fine for open walls, but tight drops? Steel tape, full stop.
