A garage sale find that made me recheck my shutter speeds

Picked up a beat-up Pentax Spotmatic at a garage sale in Dayton for $15, mostly for parts. After cleaning the mirror box, I noticed the 1/1000th speed sounded way slower than it should. Grabbed my shutter timer and it was actually firing at 1/300th, which explains why my first test roll came out overexposed. That little find reminded me to never trust the dial numbers without verifying, especially on older gear. Anyone else got a cheap body that turned out to be a hidden teaching moment?
