Had a customer's Pentax roll out from under my bench and into a floor drain in my Kansas City shop
I was doing a CLA on a spotless K1000 last Tuesday when the body slipped off my mat, bounced twice, and slid straight into the open drain grate in the corner of my basement shop. I spent 40 minutes with a magnet taped to a coat hanger fishing around in there, and when I finally pulled it up the mirror was jammed and the wind lever was bent to hell. Do you tell the customer the truth or do you eat the cost and find a donor body?
A drain grate in a basement shop is basically a wood chipper for small parts, and I've watched a guy lose a wedding band down one at a laundromat last year. Honestly the same thing happens everywhere, we build these little holes into our spaces and then act shocked when the important stuff falls in. Tell the customer the truth, because a good shop owner eats the cost but keeps the trust.
