A ranger at Shenandoah told me my $200 tent poles were the reason I kept snapping them in wind
Was packing up at Big Meadows last weekend and a ranger wandered over, looked at my setup and asked if I'd ever checked the pole diameter against the tent's wind rating. I said no, I just bought whatever matched the model number. Turns out my poles were 8.5mm when the tent was rated for 11mm, which is why I'd snapped two of them in gusts over the past year. Anyone else find out their gear was mismatched from the start like that?
