My camp stove conked out last trip, so I'm switching to foil packet meals. Any favorite recipes?
Burnt everything trying to grill trout. Looking for foolproof foil packet combos for alpine lakes.

In the Sierras, I combine sliced potatoes, carrots, and trout with dill and lemon for easy lakeside meals.

Adding some onion and garlic to @schmidt.brooke's mix can really deepen the flavors, especially when everything is wrapped in foil and tossed on the coals. The acidity from the lemon helps tenderize the trout while the dill cuts through the richness. I've found that pre-slicing the veggies at home saves time at the lakeside, letting you enjoy the scenery more. This kind of one-packet meal is ideal for minimizing cleanup after a long day of hiking. Another tip is to use baby potatoes and rainbow carrots for a more vibrant presentation, though any variety works.

What type of onion do you USE, yellow or red? I've had red onion turn too sweet over the coals. Garlic burns so fast, do you slice it thin or crush it? @schmidt.brooke's basic mix is solid, but your additions must make it UNREAL. Pre-cutting veggies is smart, but how do you keep them from getting soggy in the pack? And those rainbow carrots are pretty, but do they cook as fast as regular ones?
