Shoutout to the rain fly I almost didn't pack last weekend

We camped up near Lake Almanor and the forecast said clear, so I nearly left my rain fly behind. Good thing I tossed it in anyway, because at 2 AM a wind gust hit and the sky opened up for a solid 40 minutes. My buddy's tent without a fly turned into a wading pool, but ours stayed dry as a bone. It made me think about how often I skip gear based on weather apps that turn out wrong. Has anyone else had a last minute gear decision that saved your trip or ruined it?
