I swapped my 4 ft level for a 2 ft on a fireplace job in Tulsa and the brickwork came out straighter

PSA: a dispatcher in Reno told me my carrier quote was 'a red flag' and it saved me $400

Same pattern as cheap flights and hotel rooms, the too good price is bait and they get you later.

The 1954 quake that moved an Alaskan town 60 feet sideways

I'm not sure I buy the 60 feet sideways thing for Whittier, fault slip usually shows up more as vertical uplift than a town sliding that far over. Maps can get skewed from resurveying after the quake, so I'd want to see the actual survey notes before believing it.

Unpopular opinion: the week a campus tour group drowned out our speaker taught me more than the speech did

Went into that post ready to roll my eyes because I used to be all about the "just let them speak" thing. Then I remembered a town hall in 2022 where a group of nurses showed up to yell about hospital staffing, and they were the only ones in the room who had actual numbers and names of people who died. The speaker just kept reading from a script while they ran circles around him. Made me realize the loud ones are sometimes the only ones who did the reading.

Watched a founder in Austin lose his biggest client because of a 2 day email delay

That thing about everyone assuming someone else would reply is so real. We lost a lead once the same way and now we just rotate who checks email each day, takes like 10 minutes and nothing slips through. Maybe it's just me but one person owning it beats a whole team watching it.
