PSA: Our student paper spent 4 months fighting the admin just to run a cartoon about parking fees.

The dean's office claimed it was 'disruptive' and we had to get a lawyer from the FIRE group involved before they backed down, so has anyone else's campus pulled this over something that wasn't even political?

Look, I get why the admin would push back. A cartoon feels like a cheap shot, not real reporting. They have to keep the campus running smooth and constant griping about parking just makes their job harder. Sometimes student papers forget they're part of the school too, not just outsiders throwing rocks. Getting a lawyer involved for a cartoon seems like picking a fight where there didn't need to be one.

Wait, they called a cartoon "disruptive"? What's next, banning comics in the library? RyanG65, a cheap shot? It's a drawing about how parking costs too much, not a call to burn down the admin building. My old school tried to kill a story on where the cafeteria food actually came from, said it would "cause undue alarm." That's the real overreach, shutting down basic questions because they're scared of looking bad. Fighting it with a lawyer is what you have to do when they act like that.
