Why does nobody talk about Canada's secret news blackout on pipeline protests?

My buddy moved up there for work a few years back and he got a speeding ticket in some tiny town in Ontario. Nothing crazy, just a few over. He tried to talk to the cop about it and the guy just shrugged and wrote him up anyway. Later he found out the town basically lives off those tickets, like it's their main source of income. So much for that polite stereotype, huh.

Dropped $80 on an AI detection tool and it flagged my handwritten poem as fake

Ask @victor219 something for me - do you think handwriting analysis is actually accurate for people who write slowly and carefully on purpose? Because I see people talk about handwriting like it reveals deep personality traits, but I always figured most folks just write how they were taught in school and never changed. I remember my third grade teacher used to make us trace letters over and over, and that style stuck with me, even though I'm nothing like that perfect student I was back then. Seems like handwriting says more about who taught you than who you really are.

Unpopular take: I think the old censorship of "Where the Wild Things Are" was actually justified

@tessa_kelly those three nightmares say it all. Maybe the old folks were onto something about Max being way too alone in that story.

Can we talk about how Maus got banned in Tennessee?

Holy crap, wait. They banned it over a naked mouse? I honestly thought the nudity concerns were just people being dramatic online. But they actually looked at a Pulitzer-winning book and decided the problem was a cartoon mouse being drawn without clothes. That is such a weird line to draw. I get language concerns, but a naked mouse in a serious historical book about genocide? Feels like they were actively looking for a reason to get rid of it.

Saw a clip from a 2016 rally in Phoenix that made me rethink something

Best thing I ever figured out was to stop watching the speeches and start watching the crowd reaction instead. You see exactly what he's doing, he's reading their energy and feeding it back to them. Once you realize it's basically call and response, none of it feels accidental anymore.
