A work meeting in Phoenix last Tuesday showed me why some ideas get shut down fast

We were talking about a new project and I suggested we try a different way to check our work. I said we could use a simple checklist before each step to catch mistakes early. My boss cut me off and said, 'We don't have time for extra steps, just follow the plan.' It hit me that the real rule wasn't about time, it was about not questioning how things are done. I felt like I couldn't say anything else for the rest of the meeting. Has anyone else had a boss who just wants you to stay quiet and not bring up new ideas?

That checklist idea is actually solid, it saves more time than it costs. Seen this before. Next time, try framing it as a way to speed up the plan, not change it. Like, "What if we add a quick 30-second check at the start of phase two to avoid rework later?" Makes it sound like you're helping the existing process, not fighting it. Bosses like that usually just hate feeling challenged in front of people.

Honestly, why is it so hard to remember that bosses have egos? I once suggested a fix in a meeting and got a look that could freeze coffee.
