Got corrected for saying "you guys" in a meeting last Tuesday

I was in a Zoom call with about 15 people from our Phoenix office and I said "you guys need to check the spreadsheets before Friday." A younger coworker messaged me after and said they prefer "everyone" because "guys" isn't inclusive. I get the idea but I grew up in Texas where "y'all" is normal and "you guys" just means people to me. It felt weird that I couldn't even say a casual phrase without getting a side note about it. Has anyone else run into this at work where everyday words become a whole thing?

Wait you actually got a private message about it? Not even a public callout but a whole separate message to correct you on "you guys"? That is wild to me. I've said "you guys" in every workplace I've been in for the last 15 years and nobody has ever said a word about it. Growing up in New York that was just how you talked to a group of people, like how you said y'all in Texas. I'm not saying the coworker is wrong, I get the reasoning, but getting a side note over something that basic feels like a lot. Did they have any examples of what they wanted you to say instead or was it just "don't say that"?

Oh man, I've been there. Just switch to "y'all" or "everyone" and save yourself the hassle, it's not worth the argument.
