I used to think keeping my mouth shut at work was weak, then a meeting in Cleveland proved me right
I always thought saying exactly what I felt made me honest, so when a coworker's project plan looked bad in a meeting last month I said so right there in front of everyone in our Cleveland office. The manager pulled me aside after and said two words: "You're done," meaning my shot at leading the new account just went to someone else. I sat with that for a week and finally got it, holding back in that room wasn't lying, it was just picking a better time and place. Now I write things down first and ask one on one instead of firing off in front of the group. Has anyone else had a boss shut a door on you over one comment you could have just saved for later?
