My uncle told me to keep quiet about the mold in my rental, but I reported it anyway and got evicted 3 months later
He said it would blow over if I just let it be, but after I sent the health department photos and they found black mold behind the walls, the landlord didn't renew my lease and now I'm stuck with a higher rent somewhere else - has anyone else lost a place just for speaking up about a real problem?

Your uncle gave you bad advice but three months is a long time to stay after reporting. I've seen people get evicted in 2 weeks for way less. You had time to find another place and save up. The health dept probably told the landlord to fix it which costs thousands so of course he didn't renew. It's not fair but it's not really "losing everything" either, you just had to move.
