Showerthought: Getting good at not explaining my truck at block parties

I mentioned once that the noise from my moving van was just furniture shifting, not a break-in. The host cut me off, saying it killed the mood. Now I just let people assume it's a mystery vehicle. Picked up the skill of selective silence. Saves me from being the buzzkill every time.

My cousin's wedding taught me to master that awkward silence too.

Call me skeptical, but is avoiding one explanation really that serious? In my experience, people often overthink these small moments.

At a neighborhood cookout last year, I tried to explain why my old hatchback squeaked like a haunted house. Everyone just stared at their plates until someone changed the subject. Now I've learned to just nod and smile when my car makes weird noises. It's less embarrassing than killing the vibe with mechanical details.
