I used to hate networking events until I tried small ones

I always thought networking meant huge rooms with 200 people and bad coffee. Then I went to a 12-person event at a coffee shop in Denver last month. We actually talked about real problems in our field for 2 hours. Way better than exchanging business cards with strangers. Anyone else skip big events now for smaller groups?

I mean, right? My friend Sarah had the exact same thing happen to her. She went to this tiny meetup of like 10 people in a library basement, and one guy there ended up helping her fix a bug in her code that she'd been stuck on for weeks. She said it was way more like hanging out with smart people than doing the whole fake smile thing. Idk, maybe it's just the size that makes it feel less like a job and more like you're learning something real.

Yeah exactly, I've been to those big conference things where you just end up in a corner awkwardly eating a sad sandwich by yourself. But the small ones, you can't hide in the corner, so you actually have to talk to people, which is terrifying at first but then it's fine.
