My boss handed me back my project with 20 red marks and said 'read it out loud to yourself next time' and that's when I realized I had been writing for my eyes only the whole time

I work in property management and after a year of sending out tenant notices that everyone apparently ignored, I read one of my old emails out loud and it sounded like a legal document instead of a normal human request, has anyone else found that reading your work out loud actually fixes the way you communicate at the job?

Does it REALLY work that well? I tried it with a complaint letter I was drafting and I could hear exactly where I sounded like a robot instead of a person.

My buddy tried it and his email ended up sounding like a lawyer wrote it.
