Had a client in Seattle ask for a custom bookshelf built around their pet snake's tank, and the snake got loose during the final install.

Just my luck, the one time I try to be fancy with a built-in, the client's pet decides to go on an adventure. I can see the snake now, wrapped around a shelf support, judging my joinery. At least it wasn't a repeat of the time I dropped a whole can of stain on a white rug. My projects always seem to include some unexpected wildlife or a new stain color on the floor.

Oh man, I feel that. I started keeping a cheap drop cloth in my truck after a similar mess. It's saved me from so many headaches with pets and spills. Just toss it down before you even unload your tools.
