Saw a crew in Nashville frame a whole wall flat on the deck, then tip it up with 3 guys
I was in Nashville for a wedding last month and drove past a build site where the guys laid out a full 16 foot wall on the floor and raised it in one piece. I've always built in place and nailed studs one at a time, so seeing how fast it went together made me wonder if I'm wasting hours. Does anyone here frame on the deck, or is that just how they do it down south?
Oh man, building on the deck changed everything for me once I got the hang of it. I used to nail every stud in place too, one at a time, and it ate up my whole day. Now I lay the wall out flat, nail the studs, sheathing and all, then tip it up with a couple guys. The trick is to snap your bottom plate line first so the wall lands right where it needs to go. I've done it solo on shorter walls using a few blocks to keep it from sliding. You're not wasting hours being careful, but yeah, you can save a ton of time if you got the hands to help tip it.
