Shoutout to the chalk line trick that saved my stair stringer layout
After snapping lines wrong twice on a deck job in Tacoma last month, I started pulling the chalk line tight and pressing it down with a 2x4 offcut to get a dead straight mark on wet lumber, has anyone else found that works better than the old snap and pray method?

Yeah that 2x4 trick is solid, I've been doing the same on any wet or rough lumber for years. The key is giving it a good hard pull before you press down, most guys just snap it and get a lazy line that wanders.
