Glue down vs stretch in felt backing, I'm done with one of them
I spent 12 years swearing by stretch-in over pad for every residential job here in Tampa. Then last spring I did a 2,200 square foot house with the new felt backed carpet and the homeowner wanted glue down because their kids have allergies. Man, what a difference. The seams laid flat as glass, no ripple issues near the sliding doors, and trimming around the island was actually cleaner. I used to think glue was only for commercial work but now I'm kicking myself for avoiding it so long. Sure, the prep takes longer and you gotta be dead on with your trowel notch size, but the final look beats stretched carpet every time in my book. Has anyone else converted on this after years of fighting wrinkles and re-stretches?
I spent 6 years telling every customer in Clearwater that glue down was for offices and hospitals only, so I get the humble pie you're eating. The felt backing makes the glue actually grab right, and once you nail the trowel notch the carpet sits flat with no re-stretch calls eating your profit. My knees still hate me for waiting so long to switch.
