My old boss said you could never get a good seam with a cheap iron, but he was wrong.
I worked under him for two years and he swore by the $400 Roberts model, said anything under $200 was junk. Last month my main iron died on a Friday job, so I grabbed a $90 one from the hardware store just to finish. That seam on the Berber in the Henderson house? You can't feel it at all, even with your hand. I've done three more jobs with it since and the heat is steady. Has anyone else found a cheaper tool that works just as well?

My uncle's old Roberts finally gave out and the replacement just doesn't hold heat like it used to.

Wait, they still make Roberts? I thought that company went under like twenty years ago. Your uncle must have had that thing forever. It's crazy how the new stuff just doesn't last the same way, even when you buy the "good" brand now. They just don't build them to take decades of use anymore.
