Need advice for back pain that won't quit after installs
I've been installing carpet for about 12 years now, and lately my lower back has been giving me constant grief. After finishing a big job, like the one I did yesterday in a two-story house, I can hardly stand up straight without wincing. I use knee pads, but all the bending to stretch carpet and lift heavy rolls really takes a toll. I've tried icing it at night and taking over-the-counter pain meds, but that only helps a bit. My buddy says he does specific back exercises, but I don't know where to start or what's safe. I'm worried this might force me to cut back on work soon, which I really can't afford. Has anyone else dealt with this and found something that actually helps? What routines or gear do you use to keep your back in shape?

Ever think physical therapy was just for pro athletes or serious injuries? I used to think that way until my back got so bad I could barely tie my shoes. A good physical therapist showed me a couple of simple core moves, like dead bugs and bird-dogs, that made a huge difference. It's not about getting ripped, it's about teaching your muscles to support your spine during all that bending. Did you ever consider getting a professional to look at your form and give you a custom routine?

Totally get that, my back used to lock up after long days too. A PT had me doing planks and bridges, simple stuff that built up the right muscles. It made a world of difference just learning how to move properly.

Back pain after installs is brutal, man. paige_palmer52 is right about PT helping with form and simple core work.
