Old timer told me I was stretching carpet wrong and he was right

Been installing for about 4 years now and thought I had my power stretcher technique down. Met this guy Larry at a supply shop in Denver who's been doing it since the 80s and he pointed out I was putting way too much tension on the first 2 feet. He showed me his method of starting with lighter passes and working up gradually and I tried it on a 12x15 bedroom yesterday. No ripples at all and it actually saved me like 20 minutes per room. Any of you old school guys use a different approach than the standard way?

Damn, @brooke71 is right about the center-out method, but I gotta admit I'm shocked Larry showed me up that bad after four years thinking I had it all figured out.

Old school installer taught me to work from the center out and it fixed all my rippling issues.
