My uncle said never say 'marijuana' on Facebook, and 6 months later my cousin's page went dark
Back around 2018 my uncle Ray in Spokane kept telling me to stop typing 'marijuana' in Facebook comments because he swore the word itself got you flagged. I figured he was being paranoid, so I kept doing it while talking about my cousin's shop, and about 6 months later her whole business page vanished with no warning. She never got a reason, just gone, and the appeal form gave her a canned reply twice. Now I say 'cannabis' or just 'the plant' and nothing has happened since. Did your family ever have an old rule like that which turned out to be true?
I read a story a while back about Facebook's old content filters flagging words related to selling, and "marijuana" was one they watched close since it tied to drug sales. From what I remember, posts with it could get swept up even when nothing was for sale, so your uncle might not have been as paranoid as he sounded. Your mileage may vary, but switching to "cannabis" seems to have worked for you.
