I used to report comments I disagreed with, then my own post got hidden for saying something true
For about two years I was that person who hit the report button whenever a comment annoyed me, mostly on a local news page here in Spokane. I figured I was just keeping things civil, and honestly I felt pretty good about it. Then in April a post of mine about a city council vote got auto hidden for 72 hours, no warning, and when I asked why the mod said it got 9 reports in under an hour from people who clearly just did not like the number I quoted. That was the moment it clicked, because I had been one of those 9 people for other folks. I went back and counted, I had reported 23 comments in one month, and maybe 3 actually broke a rule. Now I just scroll past stuff I hate, which is way less fun but I sleep better. Has anyone else quit the report button after something like this happened to them?
