Old forum threads from 2015 got scrubbed after the site sold last year

I used to post on a niche hobby forum for vintage watch repair, and all my detailed step-by-step guides from 2015 are just gone now after the site got bought by a bigger company in 2023. The new owner said they were 'cleaning up outdated content' but I think they just wanted to bury any threads that criticized modern watch brands. Has anyone else lost years of work when a community changed hands?

I dunno, I kinda get why they'd prune old threads. I've seen forums where the old posts are full of broken image links and dead youtube videos, and it makes the whole site look neglected. Plus if the guides were really that good, someone probably saved them to the wayback machine or a personal archive. I lost a few of my early posts too but honestly my techniques got better over time so I just rewrote them.

Man, that really sucks and I feel for you. It's a special kind of frustration when your actual work and effort just vanishes because someone decided it wasn't worth keeping. I've had a few old builds disappear from forums too and it's like losing a piece of your own history honestly.
