The student paper's old issues got pulled from our archive today

I work part time at the university library and this morning a dean came down and said every issue of the student paper from 2016 to 2019 had to be removed from public shelves. No reason given, just a cart and a lock on the storage room. I pulled one issue before they took the rest and the only weird thing I saw was a front page story about a protest on campus that got three sentences about police response. My supervisor told me to just follow orders and not ask questions. That was yesterday and I still can't figure out what exactly was so dangerous about a six year old newsprint story. Has anyone else dealt with archives disappearing without any formal policy or review?
