Warning: I chose to keep my Ukraine photo essay online instead of pulling it for a $2,000 grant, and now I need advice
Six months back a small arts fund in Chicago offered me $2,000 for my photo series, but only if I pulled the two shots of a bombed school from my site. I left the photos up and lost the money. A week later a city library in Cleveland asked to show the full series, and a veterans group sent me 40 angry emails. For folks who kept work up when money walked away, how did you handle the blowback, and did the choice ever feel worth it?

A buddy of mine kept a photo of a burned church up after a gallery told him to take it down, and he lost the show but a museum in Detroit picked it up a month later. The angry emails faded after a few weeks and the folks who mattered stuck around.
