I thought those new flexible chimney camera kits were just a gimmick, but one just saved me from a huge repair bill in a 1920s house in St. Louis.

Found a massive crack in the flue liner of my old Chicago bungalow with one of those kits. The inspector missed it completely. Ended up being a simple relining job instead of a full chimney rebuild. That little camera paid for itself about ten times over.

Saying it saved you from a huge repair bill is a stretch. Those cameras just show problems you would have found anyway during a proper tear down. You still have to pay for the actual fix, so the real savings are pretty small.
