The guy at the Hershey swap meet told me to stop waxing my 65 Mustang, and he was right
I was at the big Hershey swap meet in October showing off my 65 Mustang and this old timer spent 10 minutes telling me I was ruining my paint. He said wax sits on top and traps dirt that scratches the clear coat, and that a plain wash with car soap is all you need. I switched 6 months ago and my paint still looks wet, so am I the only one who thinks the wax aisle is a scam?
Man, that old timer knew what he was talking about. I did the same thing on my 66 Fairlane and the dirt really does get stuck in the wax, especially around the wheel wells where it builds up. Now I just use a soft wash mitt and plain car soap, then hit it with a quick detailer spray if I want that shine back. Paint stays clean way longer too since nothing is grabbing onto dust.
