Had a neighbor yell at me for planting trees in my front yard
He said they'd block his view of the sunset. I live in Phoenix and it was 110 degrees that day. Anyone else get weird pushback for small eco-friendly choices?

That whole "blocking my sunset view" thing kills me. In my experience, people get really weird about their personal view corridors. I once had a guy stop me while I was putting in a rain barrel to tell me it would attract mosquitoes and lower his property value. Take this with a grain of salt but I just smiled, said "okay thanks for the tip!" and kept on with my project. The sunset guy probably would have found something else to complain about even if you planted cacti.

Yeah, that "blocking my sunset view" comment really stuck with me too... some people just feel entitled to control what happens on your own property. It's like they think the world revolves around their personal preferences or something. You handled that rain barrel situation perfectly though, just a polite brush off and carry on with your life. Honestly, I think folks like that get a weird sense of power from trying to stop harmless projects... they'd probably complain about the color of your front door if they had nothing else to nitpick.

The real irony is that guy probably curses the city every time they trim a tree blocking his view of a billboard ad.
