My solar panel quote versus my neighbor's DIY setup, night and day

Last month I got a $14,000 quote from a big installer for 18 panels, but my neighbor Dan built his own system for $9,200 using used panels from a warehouse in Denver. His setup has been running clean for 7 weeks now, while my installer still hasn't scheduled the crew. Has anyone else compared a pro install against a partial DIY route and seen a similar gap?

Dan built his own for $9,200, so I did the same with used panels from Marketplace.
