Paid $650 for a home energy audit and all I got was a list of things I already knew
I hired a company here in Portland last month to do a full home energy audit on my 1962 ranch house, and I'm still annoyed about it. The guy walked around with a thermal camera for maybe 40 minutes, told me my attic insulation was thin and my windows leak, then handed me a report that basically said 'add insulation and seal windows.' I already knew all that from a free checklist I found online. $650 for stuff you can figure out yourself with a flashlight and a cold morning. Has anyone here found an auditor who actually gave them something worth the money, like specific numbers on where the air is leaking?
I read somewhere that a good audit should include a blower door test, which actually measures how leaky your house is instead of just guessing. Sounds like your guy skipped that part and still charged you full price. Might be worth asking the next company if they do that before you hand over any money.
