PSA: I switched my AC to 78 degrees all summer in Phoenix and my bill dropped $71, but my roommate wants it back at 72
Two summers ago I ran the AC at 72 degrees nonstop from May to September here in Phoenix and my July bill hit $280. Last summer I tried 78 during the day and 76 at night, and the same month came in at $209, so I'm pretty much sold. My roommate says 78 feels like a sauna and keeps bumping it down when I'm at work, which wipes out most of the savings. I get that comfort matters when it's 112 outside, but $71 a month is real money and it's also a lot of power we're not burning. Is there a middle number that actually works, like 75 with ceiling fans running, or do I just have to eat the cost to keep the peace?
