That one convo at the library about food waste stuck with me
I was at the library downtown last month and this older guy saw me tossing a half-eaten apple into the trash. He just said 'you know that apple took over 40 gallons of water to grow, right?' Completely casual like it was nothing. Made me think about how much I throw away without even noticing. Does anyone else have little moments like that where a stranger just made you stop?

Heard a similar thing about how much water goes into a single almond once. Almost choked on my snack.

a single almond uses about 1.1 gallons of water, but that's mostly from rainfall that would happen anyway. idk, seems like people pick on almonds when dairy farms use way more water per gallon of milk. maybe it's just me but I think focusing on one nut while ignoring the bigger picture feels kinda backwards.
