The solar panels on my house used to be a point of pride, now nobody seems to care
I put up a 5 kilowatt system back in 2011, paid almost $20,000 after incentives. Neighbors would stop me at the mailbox to ask about it. Now I see new builds going up with solar as a standard option and people just shrug when I bring it up. But here is what I keep noticing wrong: everyone talks about saving the planet but nobody checks their actual production numbers. I pulled my December data the other day and saw a 40 percent drop from last winter because of a dirty panel I missed. How many people are really keeping track of their real output versus what the sales guy promised?

My buddy had almost the exact same thing happen with his panels last winter.

And man, I feel that pain. I lost a solid chunk of my roof last winter and the panels took a beating too, so I'm not exactly the guy to give advice on this. Guess I'm just lucky my house didn't decide to join the panels on their trip to the ground.
