Can we talk about the old guy who said my feeds and speeds were 'polite'
Had a journeyman watch me run a facing op on 6061 last month and he just stood there shaking his head. After about 10 minutes he says my feeds and speeds were 'too polite' and that I was letting the tool rub instead of cut. He bumped my spindle from 3000 to 4500 rpm and my feed from 20 to 35 ipm on the same 2 inch face mill. The chips went from dust to actual 6s and 9s and the finish looked like a mirror. I ran that same part in 12 minutes instead of 19 and my insert life actually got better. Anyone else get that same talk early on, or did you figure it out the hard way like I was about to?
