French press vs pour over wasn't even close for me

I spent last month testing both methods side by side with the same beans from a local roaster in Portland. The French press gave me this muddy cup with fine grit no matter how I poured, while the pour over with my $25 V60 made everything clean and bright. I think the paper filter makes all the difference for clarity. Has anyone else switched and felt the same way or am I missing something with the press?

Man that's wild lol. Did you try grinding way coarser than you thought you needed for the french press or did you just go with your usual pour over setting?

Read a piece in Sprudge last year where a barista said the French press is basically a gamble every time because the metal screen lets all the fines through. Switched to pour over with a paper filter and haven't looked back since. Tried coarse grinds in the press and still got that silt at the bottom, just not worth the hassle for me. Pour over gives me a consistent cup every single time with the same beans.
