I finally tried that "bloom your coffee for 45 seconds" thing my buddy swore by
My friend Mike kept telling me to do this for months. I thought it was just pretentious nonsense. Last week I finally timed it with a kitchen timer on my Chemex. The difference was actually noticeable - way less bitter, more even flavor. I used the same beans from Costco both times. Has anyone else blown off simple advice and then felt stupid when it worked?

Grind size matters just as much as the bloom. Make sure you're grinding medium-coarse, not fine, or you'll get a muddy mess instead.

Three times this week I've seen people in different parts of my life rush through something important and then wonder why it turned out bad. My neighbor tried to make french press coffee with pre-ground supermarket stuff and complained it was bitter, but he skipped the whole grind discussion entirely. It's like how people speed through the first step of anything and then blame the process instead of their own hurry.
