My $30 coffee scale gave me way better brews than the fancy machine I bought

I dropped $250 on an espresso machine last year but kept getting watery shots. A cheap $30 scale from Amazon fixed everything by letting me measure my dose and yield perfectly. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that upgraded your coffee more than the expensive stuff?

So when you got the scale, did you end up changing your grind size too or just the dose? Curious if one fix helped more than the other.

You ever accidentally pour water on your phone while weighing beans? Because I did that last week, and let me tell you, trying to dry out a phone with rice while making coffee is not a fun combo. Anyway, for me the scale changed things way more than the grind. Like I was so sure my grinder was off, but once I dialed in the weight it was actually my pour technique the whole time. Grind size just took the same bad coffee and made it finer or coarser, not better.
