The $45 French press that finally ended my instant coffee era

I spent 8 months telling myself instant was fine, then grabbed a cheap stainless press from a flea market in Portland. First cup was so much smoother I actually dumped my backup jar in the trash. Now I'm grinding beans weekly and the press has survived two drops on tile. Anyone else have a cheap gear upgrade that made them feel silly for waiting so long?
