Trying to dial in a grinder from 2008 took me a whole afternoon

The burrs were so worn it kept choking my machine, and I finally got it right after cleaning everything with a toothbrush. Anyone else have an old piece of gear that just refuses to quit but needs constant babying?

My old drip machine is like that... it's from my first apartment. Used to get annoyed by the fussing it needed, but now the routine is kind of calming. There's something about knowing a piece of gear that well, every little quirk and sound. Replacing it would be easier, but it wouldn't be the same. That afternoon you spent probably means you'll never get rid of it now.

My buddy had a toaster that only worked if you held the lever down for exactly seven seconds first. He called it "character" but honestly it was just broken. Sometimes a machine is just a tool, not a family member. You can get attached to the routine without pretending the thing itself is special.
