My neighbor thinks collecting comics is just about buying number one issues

He saw my long boxes and said, 'You must have a fortune in first appearances.' I had to explain that for me, it's about finding a complete story arc, like the whole 'Knightfall' run from the 90s. I got the full set from a local shop in Cleveland for about forty bucks total because the covers weren't perfect. It's the reading, not the grading, that makes a fan. Does anyone else collect for the stories over the value?

Ever read that old essay about collecting for the love of the story?

Wait, you mean the one where the guy had over 300 different toasters just because each one had a weird story behind it? @thompson.robin, that piece was wild. I remember he kept a burnt one from a house fire because the neighbor saved his dog.
