The day I had to choose between Amazing Spider-Man 300 or a full set of McFarlane Spawn
At a con in Sacramento last month, I had $350 in my pocket and two dealers both wanting my cash. One had a beat up but complete ASM 300 for $300, the other offered all 9 issues of the original Spawn run for $320. I went with the Spawn set because my buddy kept saying McFarlane stuff is gonna blow up again. So far the value hasn't moved much, but honestly flipping through those old issues brings back more memories than one key book would. Anybody else ever pass on a grail for a full run and regret it later?

Your buddy kept saying McFarlane stuff is gonna blow up again" - man, I've been hearing that since 1998. I actually did the exact opposite once, passed on a full run of early X-Force for a single Nova #1 and the Nova book turned out to be a reprint. So now I just own a slightly embarrassing stack of Liefeld comics AND a worthless book. At least your Spawn set has those sweet Todd covers to stare at while you wait for the value to move.

...and that's exactly the kind of luck I've had with "sure things" too. I swapped a near-mint Detective Comics #27 reprint for a stack of early Venom appearances back in '02 because someone told me Venom was about to be huge. That comic is still sitting in a dollar bin somewhere, I bet. At least your Liefeld comics have that classic "feet all wrong but guns everywhere" charm, mine are just reminders that I believed a guy at a flea market who smelled like cigarettes and looked really confident. So yeah, I feel your pain.
