Figured 5,000 sq ft of garage slab in one pour was bragging, then I actually counted my forms
I always rolled my eyes when guys online said they could finish 5,000 square feet in a single day, because my biggest pour with my uncle's crew back in 2019 was maybe 1,800 square feet and we were smoked. Then last month I tracked every yard we placed on a warehouse job outside Reno and hit 4,950 square feet with a laser screed and two floats running behind, and I sat in my truck just staring at the numbers. So what is the real cutoff for a one day pour before the finish quality starts slipping on you?
Man, that feeling when the numbers don't match what you thought you knew. I had the same thing happen when we poured a 3,200 square foot shop floor last spring and the laser screed just ate it up compared to the old way we used to do it with screed boards and a lot of cussing. Your body knows when you're past the point of no return though, once the guys on the floats start rushing is when you lose the finish. I'd say the real cutoff depends way more on your crew size and how fast the mud truck can get to you than the square footage number itself. Sounds like you earned that sit in the truck moment, that's a long day no matter how you slice it.
