Saw a sidewalk pour in Portland that made me question everything about broom finish

They were doing a big stretch of walkway near the Pearl District and the crew was using a super coarse broom, like something you'd use on a barn floor. The texture they left was so rough it looked like a safety hazard, not just a slip guard. I watched a lady with a stroller almost tip over trying to roll across it. Are we forgetting that a broom finish should be functional but also decent to walk on? What's the coarsest broom you'd ever use on public walkway work?

Totally agree, that sounds way too aggressive for a sidewalk. You want texture, not a cheese grater for your shoes.

My old foreman swore by a number 3 broom for sidewalks.
