Dropped $140 on 'premium' gas station sunglasses, wore them once, then got the real story

Stopped at a Shell off I-40 in Flagstaff last weekend, guy had a whole rack of those polarized wraparounds supposedly made from recycled jet canopy glass. He talked me into it saying they beat any $400 pair from a mall. Got them home, first hike near Sedona the coating started peeling off the left lens. Took them to a local optician for a quote, he laughed and said they were just tinted plastic from a bulk eBay lot, same ones sell for $6 at swap meets. I got played because I wanted to save cash and skipped checking the UV mark. Anyone else get burned by an impulse roadside buy that sounded too good?

Can't believe that guy convinced you they were made of jets, that's wild.
