My whole block lost power for 12 hours after a minor substation fire
It happened last Tuesday afternoon, and the official report said it was a faulty transformer. But the weird part was the three unmarked vans full of guys in plain clothes that showed up before the utility crew. They were taking pictures of the poles and the lines, not the burned-out equipment. A neighbor said he heard one of them on a radio say 'grid point 7 is confirmed.' Makes you wonder if they were checking for something else, something they weren't telling us. Has anyone else seen strange crews show up after a simple power outage?

So they were only looking at the lines and poles, not the fried transformer? That's the part that gets me. Were they checking for damage from something else, like maybe a drone hit or some kind of interference? "Grid point 7" sounds way too specific for a random transformer blowout.

Yeah reminds me of when my uncle's neighbor had this weird power flicker thing. They sent out a crew at 2am. My uncle watched from his porch. They were staring at this one specific pole for like 20 minutes. Not checking the actual wires. Just looking up at it. Next day the transformer on the next block over caught fire. Nobody ever explained what they were doing. Weird stuff.
