Overheard a wild theory about grocery store expiration dates

I was buying milk yesterday and the cashier said dates are just a suggestion to get you to buy more. This got me thinking about all those videos claiming stores profit from fear. Some people even believe it's a scheme to cut down on waste on purpose. Now I look at my fridge in a whole new way.

Ngl my bread went moldy like three days before the date last week. Honestly makes you wonder what they're even basing it on sometimes. Whole system seems kinda made up.
